This edition was originally prepared for a recording by The Gonzaga Band (Resonus Classics:
RES10245, 2019), which was part-funded by a research grant from Birmingham City University.

The edition contains five Psalms (Dixit Dominus, Laudate pueri, Laetatus sum, Nisi Dominus, Lauda Hierusalem) and the Magnificat from Amadio Freddi's Messa, vespro e compieta (1616). A setting of Ave maris stella from Freddi's 1642 Hinni novi concertate and Domine ad adiuvandum from Ignazio Donati's Psalmi boscarecci (1623) are included to present a complete Vespers setting.

Minimum forces required to perform this music are: 6 solo voices (SSATTB), violin, cornett and organ. Freddi's scoring indications imply that additional voices and instruments may have been added at tutti sections and the printed score contains a full breakdown of how these indications may be interpreted. This volume would therefore suit a solo-voice ensemble, or a small chamber choir with step-out soloists.
